What are your session rates?
My session rate is $125 per 50-minute session. Session fees are charged to the card on file the morning of your appointment. While I do not accept insurance, I can provide a Superbill (‘Statement for Insurance Reimbursement’) that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement based on your out-of-network coverage. I offer sliding scale services to a limited number of clients (sliding scale rate is determined based on income). Please ask about availability of sliding scale when you reach out!
how can I be sure you're the right Therapist for me?
Building a strong therapeutic alliance is crucial in counseling, so it’s important to find the right counselor for you. That's why I'm happy to offer a free 15-minute virtual consultation so that we can both determine if this is the right fit. If you're interested in scheduling a phone consult, head on over to my contact form.
are sessions in-person or virtual?
The answer is...yes! I'm happy to offer sessions either in-person in my office in Overland Park, KS or virtually, if that's more accessible to you. Virtual therapy (a.k.a. telehealth) is only available to clients in Kansas or Missouri.
What should I expect for my first session?
Before your first session, you'll receive an email asking you to fill out some paperwork. Please be sure to fill that out before your first session (ideally at least 24 hours before). If you're having trouble completing the paperwork online, please let me know and we can arrange for you to fill out your paperwork in person. I highly encourage you to aim to arrive about 15 minutes early to your first session so that you have plenty of time to find my office and get acclimated before your session time. Your first session will be 50 minutes (just like a regular session). We'll review some important consent information, talk about what brings you to counseling, answer any questions you have, and set aside some time to talk about goals, scheduling, and any other logistics.
what happens if I need to cancel a session?
There is no penalty for canceling a session with at least 24 hours notice. You will, however, be charged the full session rate for any sessions canceled with less than 24 hours notice, or any scheduled sessions for which you "no show."
I see that you're an LPC...what does that mean?
Great question! The variety of letters in the field of counseling can be confusing! LPC stands for Licensed Professional Counselor. In order to obtain this credential, I received my M.A. in Counseling from UMKC and passed the National Counselor Examination (NCE). I am currently working towards LCPC (Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor) licensure in the state of Kansas and am therefore working under the supervision of Dawn Rene McCreary, LCPC.
Good faith estimate (posted per federal law)
Read below and/or find more information HERE.

You are entitled to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of what the charges could be for counseling services provided to you. While it is not possible for a therapist to know in advance how many sessions may be necessary or appropriate for a given person you will sign both an informed consent as well as a financial agreement, both of which clearly state the session fee, prior to you being seen for services and prior to any billing.
You will be free to discontinue services or adjust according to your budget at any time. You may obtain a good faith estimate of my charges upon request prior to scheduling with me. This will be a projection of potential costs based on time in session rather than an estimation of your time in therapy. There may be additional items or services your counselor may recommend as part of your care that must be scheduled or requested separately and are not reflected in the good faith estimate.
You have the right to initiate a dispute resolution process if the actual amount charged to you substantially exceeds the estimated charges stated in your Good Faith Estimate (which means $400 or more beyond the estimated charges). The following link and phone number are provided should you have questions or seek additional information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate or the dispute process: https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises/consumers or call 1-800-985-3059. The initiation of the patient-counselor dispute resolution process will not adversely affect the quality of the services furnished to you.
The Good Faith Estimate is not intended to serve as a recommendation for treatment or a prediction that you may need to attend a specified number of counseling sessions. Most clients will attend one counseling session per week, but the number of sessions that are appropriate in your case, and the estimated cost for those services, depends on your needs and what you agree to in consultation with your counselor. You are entitled to disagree with any recommendations made to you concerning your treatment and you may discontinue treatment at any time.
LATE CANCELLATION FEES are equal to one full session fee per late cancellation ($125 for most clients), and these fees are in addition to any other session fees that may have already occurred or are yet to occur. Late cancellation fees are imposed for any cancellation initiated by you with less than 24 hours’ notice of cancellation. Therapist cannot anticipate the number of late cancellations that you will request, and therefore cannot provide an accurate estimate to you of these fees, other than the single-time fee amount.
