Trauma & emdr
Trauma isn’t just about what happened to you, it’s about the ways in which it continues to stay with you. You don’t need to have survived a “big T” trauma for your nervous system to be holding onto distress. So many of us carry the imprint of things that were overwhelming, scary, confusing, or chronically invalidating - even if no one else thought they were “that bad.” If your brain and body still feel stuck, it matters. Period.

If you’ve ever felt like you know something logically (“That wasn’t my fault”) but it doesn’t necessarily feel true, this is where EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) can be such a powerful tool. EMDR helps process traumatic memories that are still "frozen" in the nervous system, allowing your brain to finally file them away as past events rather than current threats.

I pace this work carefully and collaboratively. You won’t be diving into the deep end without a life jacket. EMDR can help clients feel a real shift in how they experience long-held pain, shame, or fear.
Tools I use in this approach:
I’ve completed level 2 training in EMDR through an EMDRIA-approved program and regularly integrate it into sessions when clients are ready and willing.

While EMDR is an incredible method, it’s not for everyone, and it’s not the modality one I use. I also draw from Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to support clients in making sense of their stories, calming their nervous systems, and building lives of meaning and value.
